If coding is dead, we don't need programming languages, we can write prompts instead of functions and statements, and compile directly from prompts to machine code. This is the future.

I have been practicing and find out that for me the best way to work with AI is using neovim with opencode together. In this setup AI write code and I quickly reviewing changes and make small fixes. Big fixes are also being done by AI. My tasks are more of a reviewer of the direction of the expected intentionality against what is actually written. And as long as I am putting my butt when pushing code I reviewed everything in detail so technically it also looks good.

I still think that in a lot of cases the constraint of writing code by hand is a good thing. Certainly in the context of working on software that's established and has a sizable user base depending on it. I'm more than willing to be proven wrong here, but I've exclusively worked in this context and haven't seen signs that would prove otherwise yet.

Im going back and forth, currently tending to writing more code myself again. I experienced that letting ai rip, leads to too much and too complex code, that can quickly become hard to maintain. Itโ€™s also way easier to reason about code, when writing it, instead of when reviewing it. While writing you explore the codebase yourself, understand more of it and naturally get an inner map of that code labyrinth. Canโ€™t really get that by looking at some diffs. Maybe itโ€™s just a matter of the context of AIs being too small compared to a human atm, which might change in the future. In the end I see it as a tool, that should support me and since I work more on existing codebases than on green field or prototypes, I see myself still being deeply buried in the codebase.

Ah, yes. The best argument is... getting called a loser for not wanting the same thing as a crazy guy. Also known as the trump card. I have yet to encounter AI generated code that does not have some quite obvious mistakes in it, and needs a considerable amount of oversight do get it right - near the time it takes me to learn and write it myself. But I probably do not spent enough money on tokens, I guess.
