Republicans somehow convinced millions of working people that they are the party of the middle class.
That may be the greatest marketing trick in modern politics.
Because look at the actual record.
They did not rebuild unions.
They weakened them.
They did not protect workers from corporate power.
They deregulated corporate power.
They did not stop billionaires from dodging taxes.
They built them better escape routes.
They did not protect the social safety net.
They call it “socialism” when ordinary people need help.
But when corporations need tax breaks, subsidies, bailouts, incentives, cheap loans, deregulation, and government contracts?
Suddenly socialism has a business suit.
That is not free-market capitalism.
That is welfare for the ownership class.
And the bill goes to workers.
That is the scam.
They tell the factory worker that immigrants are the problem.
They tell the cashier that poor people are the problem.
They tell the truck driver that unions are corrupt.
They tell the farmer that regulations are the enemy.
They tell the small-business owner that taxes are killing them.
Then they hand the country to billionaires.
They cut taxes at the top.
They cut services at the bottom.
They weaken labor.
They protect monopolies.
They let private equity gut hospitals, nursing homes, housing, newspapers, retail chains, and local economies.
They call workers “essential.”
Then treat them as disposable.
And somehow they call this “pro-worker.”
No.
A party that breaks unions is not pro-worker.
A party that protects billionaires from taxes is not pro-worker.
A party that cuts health care and food assistance is not pro-worker.
A party that lets corporations write the rules is not pro-worker.
A party run by billionaires is not anti-elite.
It is the elite.
This is not working-class politics.
It is billionaire politics wearing a hard hat.
The message is always the same:
Be mad at your neighbor.
Be mad at the immigrant.
Be mad at the poor.
Be mad at the teacher.
Be mad at the public employee.
Be mad at the person making $2 more an hour than you.
Just do not look up.
Do not look at the billionaire.
Do not look at the private equity firm.
Do not look at the monopoly.
Do not look at the tax shelter.
Do not look at the donor class.
Do not look at the people buying the government.
That is how the con works.
They give workers someone to blame.
Then they give billionaires everything else.
The truth is simple:
Workers do not need billionaire saviors.
Workers need bargaining power.
Workers need health care.
Workers need wages that keep up with prices.
Workers need affordable housing.
Workers need retirement security.
Workers need child care.
Workers need schools.
Workers need roads.
Workers need hospitals.
Workers need a tax system where wealth pays its share.
But the billionaire class does not want workers asking for power.
So they sell them identity instead.
They sell flags.
They sell outrage.
They sell culture wars.
They sell fake populism from private jets.
And then they laugh all the way to the tax shelter.
The Republican Party did not become the party of the working class.
It became the party that learned how to get working people to vote for the ownership class.
That is not representation.
That is extraction with better branding.
