Prof Sethulego Matebesi speaks on issues of migration in SA

In parts of Johannesburg, protests have once again brought the issue of migration into sharp focus, as demonstrators call for stronger action against undocumented immigrants. Businesses have shut their doors, tensions have risen, and familiar questions have resurfaced about jobs, safety, and access to basic services.

But beneath the noise of protest and the urgency of public frustration lies a deeper and more complex story. One that is not only about borders and legality, but about inequality, opportunity, perception, and the lived realities of millions within South Africa.
