UN 2026: Strong words, but no action on Ukraine | Ukraine Brief

Russian strikes across Ukraine over the past 24 hours have killed at least 17 people and wounded around 60, with Kyiv suffering extensive damage to civilian infrastructure, including a maternity hospital.

In the Kharkiv region, at least six people were killed when Russian forces struck a farm warehouse.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned at the UN General Assembly that Ukraine would make the coming winter “painful” for Russia if Moscow continues targeting Ukrainian energy infrastructure.

Also during Zelenskyy’s trip to New York, Ukraine and Finland signed a drone deal covering joint defense production and the transfer of drone technology.

Denmark’s Defense Intelligence Service has also raised its assessment of potential Russian threats, saying that although a full-scale attack on a NATO member remains unlikely, it cannot be ruled out.
