War took her brother and her vision – a Gazan artist's creative life halted

Areej al-Saafin is an artist in Gaza whose life has been profoundly shaped by the Palestine–Israel conflict. Displaced multiple times with her family, she has endured the loss of her brother and the loss of vision in one eye, a blow that has deeply affected her ability to continue painting. In her own words, the war has taken not only her sense of normalcy, but also her hope and passion for art.
