Ok so data centers use about 2 million gallons of water a day. But how that water gets used is important too. Most of it gets boiled off and vented into the air. But it doesn't boil off all the water. It concentrates the water that doesn't boil off with an ever increasing material leftover of salts, minerals, and other mats. Resulting in a toxic mix of concentrated sewage that gets vented back into the environment.

There are data center systems that use "closed loop cooling" to move the heat around. Those don't consume water in their cooling systems. They also don't get very big because you have to pass air through radiators and for a 10,000 acre facility, there's only so much air you can heat before you're altering weather patterns.

So if data centers don't use water to cool the surface then what do they use? A huge building full of servers does not use water to cool things. Not only does the building have to be cold but the servers have to be cooled. The builders also cannot be humid because the humidity in the air will disrupt the servers. Also the CPUs have to be cooled and in modern computers the gpus unless they use for a lot more or built into the chips. Just imagine how much energy of water a data center in Arizona Nevada Texas Louisiana Mississippi Alabama Florida South Carolina Georgia Tennessee Virginia Southern California have to have to be cool! Mind you pay attention to those States. Pay attention to the temperatures in those States and the Long Summers and think about how much extra has to be used just to keep the building cool along with the CPU in the summertime, spring and fall?!

Data centers do not need to use water if they had spent just 10% more on building a data center they could have recycled the water. But they wanted to squeeze every damn dollar out of it. But maybe now that data centers are getting voted down they might actually implement the technology. And when I mean technology is they just make sure the steam goes into a vat and when it cools down it gets recycled back into the groundwater. Not exactly rocket science.

And if you guys would just check into it, you'd find that the Democrats caused a lot of this and you can whine and cry like a bunch of babies and say it ain't so. But you know it is. Biden did it when he closed all our power plants. Now I ain't saying that those places ain't causing trouble with water. Let us engineers control the technology and get the rewards for it and we'll build it better and safer.
