Steve Bantu Biko | Reflecting on Black Consciousness Movement leader

AZAPO President Nelvis Qekema says the seventh local government elections should focus on restoring the dignity of black South Africans living in poverty and poor conditions, more than three decades into democracy.

He says this would be a fitting tribute to late Black Consciousness Movement leader Steve Biko, who died in police custody on 12 September 1977.

Qekema argues that the continued face of poverty in black communities reflects what he describes as an incomplete liberation.
