South Africa's legal sector in the spotlight

Legal association Advocates for Transformation has issued a statement condemning what it calls "a sustained and escalating campaign of threats and intimidation directed at its National Chairperson, Advocate Myron Dewrance SC and Advocate Sandile Khumalo SC, as well members of Advocate Dewrance's family and friends".

Many viewers may know Advocate Sandile Khumalo SC as one of the commissioners at the Madlanga Commission of Inqiury.

According the statement, the AFT's preliminary enquiries indicate that the grievance may be linked to disciplinary proceedings against a member of the Johannesburg Society of Advocates, who was charged with serious professional misconduct.

We have invited Advocates for Transformation to the discussion to give them right of reply, but they have not yet responded to our invitation.
