U.S. President Donald Trump has escalated his economic pressure on Canada following its retaliatory tariffs against the U.S., issuing a series of proclamations Tuesday night to ban certain Canadian alcohol, dairy products, and motorcycles from entering America, and imposing a 50% tariff on even more goods.
The ban on the importation of some alcohol, dairy, motorcycles, and mopeds will take effect September 29 at 12:01 a.m. ET. But beside the trade war between U.S. and Canadian authorities, Canadian authorities have pursued an independent policy not only toward the U.S. but toward all foreign affairs. Ukrainian President Zelenskyy’s visit is proof of this. Relations with Ukraine is one of the Canadian government's top priorities, where more than two million Ukrainians currently reside. A new agreement on economic and defense cooperation has been signed. It is intended to strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities against Russian aggression.
