Transnet returns to profitability

State-owned logistics giant Transnet is back in the black after reporting a financial turnaround for the financial year ended March, 2026. Following years of consecutive losses, the utility posted a net profit of R4,6 billion. This marks a staggering 344% improvement, compared to the previous year. The group's total revenue rose by 7,1%, to R88,6 billion.

Transnet leaders attribute the performance to a vital operational rebound.

Freight rail volumes grew by 4,9% to nearly 168 million tonnes, up from roughly 160 million tonnes in 2025.​
