Poor journalism. The Bayeux Tapestry has nothing to do with "British" or "UK" history. These names and concepts didn't exist until 1606 and 1801 respectively. It's the story of the 1066 Norman invasion of England, not Britain and not the UK.

Correction - first time in England. It is permanently on display in Bayeux, France.

The BBC need to BBC Verify their own Headline title. The Bayeux Tapestry has been available to view in Bayeux right up until the museum housing was closed foe renovation and the tapestry crated up to deliver to London. FFS, BBC. Get it right. Bayeux is only on the other side of La Manche. You can get a ferry from Portsmouth to Ouistreham and then it's just a short drive to Bayeux. I saw it there 6 years ago.

"the battle of hastings was long ago in 1066, and fortunately someone had the foresight to take a tapestry of the event" Cunk

Irks me that the french claim this as there's when we made it and the Norman's weren't french they were northmen literally the same bloodline as the Anglo Saxons who were already here . Suprised it didn't arrive shrouded in white flags, on boat like De Gaul or the boaties arriving daily now

Saw it in France when I was a child. It's just a giant tea towel. Don't bother. 😁
