Asian stocks were mostly lower as the biggest wave of attacks on shipping in the widening ​war in the Middle East kept oil prices above $100 a barrel -- leaving investors nervous ahead of U.S. inflation data that will influence near-term monetary ‌policy.

The JSE's All Share Index down 0.6% at 115 779

The rand is at R16.09 to the dollar
R21.78 to the pound
and R18.71 against the euro

Gold is at 4 376 dollars an ounce
Platinum at 1 867 dollars an ounce
and Brent Crude Oil at 101.92 dollars per barrel.
