If the US stops AI research, they will only lag behind and the innovation that will result in AI research will only make China dominate the US. I feel a lot of people are just succumbing to Chinese propaganda regarding AI. I have also noticed AI is one tool that even those that hate it us it. People can be concerned about any peice of technology but rejecting it outrightly, not based on actual harm done, but on the basis of some imagined doomsday, is foolishness. If you hate AI, please uphold your values by not using it but you won't.

As someone who uses AI heavily for work, the biggest issue is I can use it to create tools to replace entry level jobs. My tools can complete a task in 30 minutes that would take an entry level associate a day or 2 to complete.
This is the excuse they/thems will use when the internet goes away. To Keep us quiet. No internet no cloud AI. LOCAL AI? not much of that around. A birth of new make up paint and clothing all green. Electric eyes n superglue bombs bungee nets n giant fly traps.
