New York Mayor releases records on toxic air ahead of 9/11 Anniversary

Ahead of the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, New York City has released more than 170 000 pages of previously withheld records that could shed new light on what officials knew about the toxic air around Ground Zero days after the attack.

The documents point to concerns inside government about asbestos, other contaminants and potential legal liability, even as the public was being reassured about air safety.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani says this is only the first release — ending a years-long legal battle over records that survivors and first responders have sought for decades.
