Pritam Singh calls for review of mayors’ roles and MP assistants’ allowances

The job scope of mayors remains unclear to many Singaporeans, said Workers’ Party chief Pritam Singh in parliament on Thursday (Sep 10) during a debate on changes to Singapore’s political salary framework.

Mr Singh also questioned why their remuneration continues to be linked to the political salary framework, and called on the government to include the office of the mayor in its study of payments for community-related roles and explain its scope, role and function.

The Workers’ Party chief urged the government to review without delay the allowances for MPs’ legislative and secretarial assistants, which he said were last updated in 2007. He said these assistants were among the “unseen contributors behind the scenes” who help MPs discharge their responsibilities. #sgnews #singapore
