Being an MP should be financially and professionally sustainable as a person’s primary commitment, Nominated MP Kenneth Goh said in parliament on Thursday (Sep 10) during a debate on changes to Singapore’s political salary framework.
He said the system should not assume MPs must maintain a substantial second career alongside demanding parliamentary and constituency responsibilities, citing the risk of burnout.
A sustainable MP role could also make political service more accessible to mid-career Singaporeans, those with family responsibilities and people whose occupations offer less flexibility, he said. #sgnews #singapore
