Fuel Price Hike | SA faces record high petrol and diesel prices

South African motorists could soon face record-breaking fuel price hikes as rising global oil prices. Early data from the Central Energy Fund suggests motorists may see one of the largest monthly fuel increases in the country's history. 

The latest projections come just days after motorists absorbed another round of fuel price increases. According to the latest CEF figures, petrol is currently showing an under-recovery of R1.81 a litre for 93 octane and R1.93 for 95 octane.

Diesel is also deep in under-recovery territory, at R1.73 for 0.05% sulphur and R2.03 for 0.005% sulphur. Yesterday (Wednesday) the Brent oil price rose above $100 per barrel for the first time since July.
