“A wage framework does not make a number right, simply because a formula exists. What matters is that there is a credible basis behind it,” said MP for Punggol GRC Yeo Wan Ling in parliament on Thursday (Sep 10) during a debate on changes to Singapore’s political salary framework.
She said the revised ministerial salary benchmark should be clearly distinguished from what ministers actually receive. Under the revised framework, ministers can be paid within a range of 75% to 125% of the reference salary for their grade, while the immediate adjustment for existing ministers is up to 9%.
Ms Yeo said Singaporeans are entitled to scrutinise the basis for the benchmark, with subsequent salary movements depending on performance and responsibilities.
