Diana Pang asks if increase in foreign visitors has led to crime risks in Singapore

About 45,000 foreign visitors were refused entry at Singapore checkpoints in 2025, up 38.3% from around 33,000 in 2024, said Minister of State for Home Affairs Zhulkarnain Abdul Rahim in parliament on Thursday (Sep 10).

He was responding to MP Diana Pang, who asked whether an increase in visitors following visa-free arrangements with certain countries has led to more burglaries and scams in Singapore.

Mr Zhulkarnain said foreigners assessed to pose immigration or security risks, or believed to intend to work illegally in Singapore, may be denied entry. He added that pre-arrival checks and traveller assessments have become more robust.
