A drone incident that contributed to the fall of Latvia’s previous government highlighted just how seriously the Baltic states take the threat posed by Russia. Is Russia edging closer to the blurry line between hybrid warfare and open conflict? Or has it already crossed it?
“Let’s not forget that we’re in a situation where Russia is using sabotage, subversion, interference in the internal affairs of countries in their elections,” Imants Lieģis, former Latvian Defense Minister, told TVP World.
“They are killing people on NATO country territories. They are attacking. They're sending drones onto our territory,” he said.
“And I think we should move away a little bit from calling it ‘hybrid’, because that gives it almost a user-friendly type of connotation, whereas in fact it’s state-sponsored terrorism,” the former Latvian defense minister stressed.
Join TVP World’s Marcin Zaborowski and his guest as they explore how Latvia is strengthening its anti-drone and border defenses, what role NATO’s expanding military presence plays in deterring Russia on the Alliance’s eastern flank, and whether fears of a Russian false-flag operation against the Baltic states are justified.
