Steve Biko Death | Inquest indefinitely postponed

The reopened inquest into the death of Black Consciousness leader Steve Biko has been postponed indefinitely.

This follows an urgent application to halt proceedings, which was heard in the Gqeberha High Court before Judge Johannes Eksteen.

The Biko family argued that it needed access to critical affidavits and documents from the original 1977 inquest, as well as material from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission archives.

The family says this information is necessary to adequately prepare for the cross-examination of witnesses and persons of interest.
