UN honours Qatar’s Sheikh Hamad for diplomatic and mediation legacy

The United Nations has held a special session to honour the life and legacy of Qatar’s late Father Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres and representatives from several countries praised Sheikh Hamad’s contribution to diplomacy, mediation and multilateralism, highlighting Qatar’s growing role in international affairs during his leadership.

Tributes also highlighted Qatar’s mediation efforts in conflicts including Darfur and Afghanistan, and Sheikh Hamad’s willingness to bring opposing sides together in pursuit of dialogue and compromise.

The session also reflected on Qatar’s transformation into a modern state and its emergence as a partner in international diplomacy and peace efforts.
