School Raids | Discipline challenges at some Gauteng schools

Gauteng Education MEC Lebogang Maile says the province needs two-hundred new schools to accommodate growing learner numbers and eliminate the use of buildings that are not fit for teaching and learning.

Speaking during a search and seizure operation targeting gangsterism, drug use and vandalism in schools, Maile warned that funding constraints and depleted provincial finances are hampering efforts to improve safety, address overcrowding and upgrade dilapidated school infrastructure.
