I love how news reports these existential crisis’s like it’s the first time we’ve been aware of it.
Anthropic drops wild claims every three months just to grab headlines because they can't figure out why nobody wants to pay for corporate AI. The media loves the fear-mongering, but it’s hard to be scared of technology that can’t even play chess, let alone solitaire.

There’s no need to write science-fiction scenarios about AI. What’s coming is already visible. The direction is obvious, and the anxiety around it is already huge. Sooner or later it will slip out of control. The only humane instinct in all of this is treating AI as something dangerous. In Theory of Infinite Freedom I lay out what I think AI actually is — and we are clearly moving in that direction. The ones who will feel the shock first are government systems and the bourgeois class.

Not all doomers have a low risk this is misleading, the average risk of extremely bad outcomes or extinction would be on average 50% for doomers.

Killing all humans is quite difficult. Even an all-out nuclear war would not cause that. There would still be a few mountain villages that would survive. Killing all humans is much more difficult than killing only 90% of them. Well, that would be bad enough.
Finally i can experience apocalypse and wander around the world alone with nothing but robots and grotesque creatures howling at night.

None of these videos really explain what dangers ai pose, what would ai induced human extinction look like? Why does nobody really explain how it could happen? We just hear “ai misalignment”, we need some examples of what this means and then maybe this will wake people up!

I think AI is something to be concerned about. However, notice that that statement, "AI could kill us all," does not provide any scenarios by which AI would kill all human beings. I find it extremely difficult to believe that AI could kill all human beings.<br><br>But yes, could it wipe out a significant amount of the human population? Possible. Could it set back human civilization decades and centuries? Possible. But I find it hard to believe that it could kill all humans.

the risk is low they say, the risk is 100,000x more likely than a planet killer asteroid hitting us before the end of the century, its more likely than nuclear war in any given year which is 10,000 to 1, they rate it at the low side of 10 to 1 by 2030. If there was a 10% chance a plane you flew on was going to crash, you probably wouldnt fly.

I just want to point out that before the first nuclear weapon was tested, the scientists thought there was a chance it would ignite all hydrogen in the atmosphere. Having said that tho, I do believe AI will eventually end humans, maybe not before 2030 but it might be in 50, 100, 200 years, as there is no putting this genie back in the bottle now.
