Steve Biko Inquest | Inquest postponed indefinitely: Nkosinathi Biko shares more

The reopened inquest into the death of Black Consciousness leader, Steve Biko, has been postponed indefinitely.

This follows an urgent application to halt proceedings heard by Judge Johannes Eksteenin the Eastern Cape High Court in Gqeberha.

The Biko family argued that it needed access to critical affidavits and documents from the original 1977 inquest, as well as material from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission archives.

The family says this information is necessary to adequately prepare for the cross-examination of witnesses, and persons of interest.

Kim Daniels reports that the request was initially refused by the presiding judge in the inquest, Isaac Madondo, but Judge Eksteen has now ruled in favour of the Biko family.
