Russia-North Korea new bridge: Supply route for war effort? | Eastern Express

A new road bridge between Russia and North Korea has opened across the Tumen River, creating the first direct road connection between the two countries, and offering a faster route for people and cargo. While Moscow and Pyongyang present the bridge as a symbol of friendship and a gateway for trade, tourism, and economic cooperation, its strategic significance is difficult to ignore.

Since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the two countries have rapidly strengthened their military and economic partnership, with North Korea providing ammunition, missiles and troops to support Russia’s war effort. The new bridge could make the movement of personnel and military supplies faster, more flexible, and harder to monitor than existing routes. Built as their wartime relationship deepened, it could become another logistical corridor connecting Moscow and Pyongyang.
