Chhattisgarh is seeing major railway expansion to address long-standing congestion and improve connectivity across tribal and economically important regions.The Bilaspur–Katni corridor is being upgraded to four lines via Anuppur, a key rail junction connecting traffic towards Jharkhand, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. The projects will boost freight capacity, with up to 5 million tonnes of additional cargo, while easing congestion. The projects are also environmentally beneficial, expected to save around 4.3 crore kg of CO₂ annually—equivalent to planting 17 lakh trees—and generate nearly 30 lakh person-days of employment. The logistics cost savings are estimated at ₹96 crore.The Pendra Road–Katni fourth-line project, costing ₹2,975 crore, will add 8 million tonnes of cargo capacity, save around 14 crore kg of CO₂ annually—equivalent to 58 lakh trees—and reduce logistics costs by ₹322 crore: Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw
