Senators demanding a speedy resolution to the nurses' strike

Senators have faulted Governors over the protracted nurses’ strike that has seen hospitals across the country lack critical services for more than 40 days. Speaking in the Senate after resuming from recess, the legislators accused the council of governors of dragging their feet in addressing the concerns of the nurses. They said their inaction could further plunge the sector into crisis following threats by doctors to join the nurses in their strike in 7 days if the matter remains unresolved. The lawmakers said parliament had appropriated adequate resources to the 47 devolved units to address such concerns, adding it was time to revisit the establishment of a health commission to address the health workers' welfare.
