The AFD is pro Russia, in my opinion, because after the reunification of Germany. What used to be East Germany was largely ignored by the West Germany, and the East Germans became worse off then they were under the communist rule...

Most people in the comment section seem to have no idea how dangerous the AFD actually is. A party whose members repeatedly quote the SS (Björn Höcke), met with popular Neo-Nazis like Martin Sellner to discuss the deportation of immigrants with a German citizenship and claim that Hitler was a left wing politician (Alice Weidel) has no place in a democracy, especially after the Holocaust. As a German I find the success of the AFD very alarming and concerning. People seem to learn nothing from history and need to stop blaming immigrants for their problems if they don't want history to repeat itself.

Synthesized media spectacle: Sachsen Anhalt is 2,5% of Germanys population and has no influence. Now AfD have the bigger job of doing their promises. I predict next election they may be out already. Either way the CDU really needed this message and made all of this necessary and possible. And the neo-Nazis would vote for another party if not AfD and media are not pointing any fingers at the legacy parties the neo-Nazis formerly voted for.

You know why it is so divided in Germany? Both sides have good and bad points. A logical, rational, objective and realistic policy is needed to addresses their concerns. Some goals and intentions as harsh as it may seem must be abandoned for the greater good. If it cannot be realistically accomplished either socially or economically then don't force it-unless absolutely vital some things cannot be purchased or paid for regardless of want. A state must be able to recognize this.

The old lady states the german values of human rights, equality, inclusivity. But how can it works with migrants and cultures who don't believe in these values, like islam or judaism?
@fluffy-puffy-puppy
Should have listened to the 'bigots' that warned against Merkel's open borders in 2015 instead of calling them names.

Since then Brexit happened and now AFD is just inches away from power. All these are merely reactions to the breakdown in national unity and identity caused by mass immigration.
@InterestingLyricsFactory
It depends on your criteria for “totalitarianism” as to whether the protesters, AfD and “online far right” (et al) are the existential threat, or the opposite of it: Does it exist in men marching to protest an invasion of illegal economic migrants in Portsmouth - or is the invasion itself, orchestrated with the state, the act of totalitarianism? Does it exist in people wanting free expression to make their feelings known, a more responsive democracy, borders, and perhaps even a pro-business taxation systems? Or does it exist in a state that imposes its open borders ideology irrespective of election results, as it seeks its interpretation of a globalist utopian civilisation, paid for by steepling taxes on its people (not to mention the human costs to victims of barbaric crimes and disintegrated communities)?.
Does it exist in people who wish for demographic security for white Europeans - a form of ethno-nationalism? Or does it exist in people who create multicultural societies in which racial groups exist in status tiers, as they compete for resources and rights?
Does it exist in those that say offensive things that upset the state's sensibilities, or does it rest in a state that censors them and, in extremis, puts them in prison, or the employers than sack them?
Does it exist in those that march in London calling for, or alongside those who call for, the extermination of Israel and a global Antifada? Or is it extreme that others are appalled by it and by the State that nurtures and appeases terrorist sympathies?
Fascism was only one of only several flavours of totalitarianism that ended with millions dead. Communism was another. And the conquesting Islamic empires through history - who collectively enslaved and/or murdered tens of millions of people - was another form.
Extremity is not the preserve of the left or right. It's the preserve of people who will go to ultimate ends to indulge their fantasies about how civilisation should be. Democracy should be the buffer. But so-called "Liberal Democracy" is its evil twin.
