There have been disruptions in energy supply and significant price volatility is being observed in the international market. However, the Government of India has taken several effective steps to ensure that fuel supply is maintained with minimum inconvenience to common consumers. As a result of these measures, our crude inventory is stable and adequately managed.
Our refineries are operating at optimal levels. There is no dry-out reported at any retail outlet. LPG distributorships are also functioning smoothly, with no shortages reported. Sufficient stocks of petrol and diesel are available, and LPG is being supplied for domestic cooking needs.
In the last three days alone, 1.14 crore LPG cylinders have been delivered against 1.26 crore bookings. Similarly, more than 17,000 tonnes of commercial LPG have been sold in the last three days. Over 762 tonnes of auto LPG has also been sold. Additionally, more than 1,40,000 small 5-kg cylinders have been sold in the same period, and around 93 camps were conducted by Oil Marketing Companies, during which over 2,100 cylinders were sold.
In the natural gas sector, 6.7 lakh PNG connections have been gasified, infrastructure has been created for 2.68 lakh connections, and over 7,29,000 new consumers have registered for PNG connections. More than 52,300 PNG consumers have surrendered their LPG connections.
In the petrochemical segment (C3 and C4 molecules), used in industries such as pharmaceuticals and paints, sales from May 1 onwards include 4,600 tonnes of propylene and 1,700 tonnes of butyl acrylate.
Enforcement actions are also being continuously carried out. In the last three days alone, around 1,500 raids and inspections have been conducted, and cumulatively, penalties have been imposed on 382 distributors by OMCs, while 76 distributors have been suspended.
Finally, I would like to appeal to everyone, as requested by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to reduce petrol and diesel consumption wherever possible. Use metro and public transport, opt for carpooling, prefer railways for freight transport, and increase the use of electric vehicles wherever feasible. Let us all collectively make efforts to conserve energy in our daily lives in order to reduce the economic burden on the country: Sujata Sharma, Ministry of Petroleum Joint Secretary
