Seasonal canning factory workers in Tulbagh fear job losses

Seasonal workers at a canning factory in Tulbagh in the Western Cape fear losing their jobs, which they say will plunge them further into poverty.

The company, Premier Group, is meeting with worker representatives in a second CCMA-facilitated process.

The Tulbagh Canning Factory has issued Section 189 notices to retrench workers as part of the decision to close the factory.

Senior Reporter, Vanessa Poonah, says the cannery has been in existence since the 1940s.
