ANC defends decision to take the IEC to the Electoral Court

The ANC has defended its decision to take the Electoral Commission to court, insisting the dispute is not an attack on the IEC, but a disagreement over the interpretation of the electoral law.

The party has approached the Electoral Court after some of its candidate nominations were excluded for missing the 28 August submission deadline.

The ANC argues that technical glitches on the IEC's online system prevented some nominations from being filed in time.

Secretary General Fikile Mbalula says the party is seeking legal clarity on what constitutes a valid submission, as it fights to have the affected candidate lists reinstated ahead of the November elections.
