Taiping Ferry and the Four Crossings

In February 1935, Taiping Ferry served as one of the main crossing points for the Red Army's second traversal of the Chishui River, marking the strategic turn back toward northern Guizhou. In late March, the Red Army decided to secretly turn eastward and cross again. On March 21–22, the Red Army made its fourth crossing of the Chishui at Taiping Ferry. Enemy reconnaissance planes did not arrive over the ferry until half an hour after the entire Red Army had crossed.
