5,000 Cartons Seized: Why were food expiry dates being altered?

According to Reuters, Maharashtra FDA raided a warehouse in Navi Mumbai and seized around 5,000 cartons of products featuring popular brands such as Lay's, Kurkure, Maggi, Thums Up and Limca, reportedly worth around ₹76 lakh. Investigators allegedly found chemicals and machines being used to change dates, along with altered Nutrition and Ingredient Labels. The products were reportedly being prepared for export, including suspected preparations for the Canadian market. The case raises a major question about food safety: if the information printed on a package can be changed, how can consumers know whether the product is actually safe?

Decode With Sudhir Chaudhary: Packaged Food खरीदते समय Manufacturing और Expiry Date देखना हमारी सबसे जरूरी सावधानियों में से एक है, लेकिन अब इन्हीं Dates को बदलकर पुराने Products को नया दिखाने का मामला सामने आया है। Reuters के मुताबिक, महाराष्ट्र FDA ने Navi Mumbai के एक Warehouse पर छापेमारी कर Lay's, Kurkure, Maggi, Thums Up और Limca जैसे Brands के करीब 5 हजार Cartons जब्त किए, जिनकी कीमत लगभग 76 लाख रुपये बताई गई है। जांच में आरोप है कि Products की Manufacturing और Expiry Dates के साथ Nutrition और Ingredient Labels भी बदले जा रहे थे। Warehouse में Date बदलने के लिए Chemicals और नई Dates Print करने वाली Machines भी मिलीं। अब सवाल है कि अगर पैकेट पर लिखी जरूरी जानकारी ही बदल दी जाए, तो ग्राहक Food Product की Safety पर भरोसा कैसे करे?
