Joburg up for grabs in November municipal polls: Chriselda Lewis reports

Johannesburg's highly contested mayoral race will ultimately require candidates to do more than simply promise change.

They will have to convince an increasingly frustrated electorate that they have credible and practical plans to tackle crime, unemployment, corruption, deteriorating infrastructure, and other social ills.

For many residents, the election is becoming a question of who can govern and deliver.

Crime and lawlessness remain major concerns, but voters are also grappling with failing infrastructure, water shortages, unreliable services, damaged roads, and growing economic pressure.
