International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies

As South Africa marks International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies, residents are being encouraged to take greater responsibility for how they manage waste.

The Deputy Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, Bernice Swarts, Deputy Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, Bernice Swarts, says Atteridgeville, west of Pretoria, is now considered a high-priority area because of poor air quality.

She says recycling can help reduce illegal dumping and the burning of rubbish, which contribute to poor air quality. Residents are also encouraged to recycle unwanted electronic items such as old toys, televisions, fridges and other appliances instead of dumping them
