Physicians are warning of a growing metabolic health burden in Kenya, with more than half of people living with metabolic disease unaware that they have the condition. Clinicians say the national caseload could double by 2050, calling for earlier diagnosis and treatment. They noted that many patients only seek care after developing complications affecting the heart, kidneys, liver or vision—by which time treatment is more complex and costly. The warning was issued during a national clinical forum in Nairobi, where Getz Pharma announced the introduction of Zepad, a prescription-only medicine for the management of obesity, type 2 diabetes and related conditions. Metabolic health refers to how an individual’s body to efficiently processes things like fats and sugar.
