The Eastern Cape is stepping up efforts to tackle food insecurity by encouraging households and communities to produce their own food.

The programme is intended not only to put food on tables, but also to reduce household costs and create opportunities for income through agricultural production.

But the question is whether community farming can make a serious dent in a much deeper crisis of poverty, affordability and malnutrition.
