Spring Day water-splashing: Harmless fun or public harassment?

Spring Day water-splashing is traditionally seen as harmless fun, especially among young people marking the start of the season.

But the tradition is increasingly raising questions about respect, responsibility and public safety.

Unsuspecting motorists, schoolchildren and elderly people have been targeted, while this year's celebrations have been marred by serious confrontations, including a reported fatal stabbing.

So, when does playful behaviour cross the line into something dangerous, and why do some young people take these celebrations too far?
