UNAIDS, SADC, the South Africa National AIDS Council and the Global Health Innovations Institute facilitated a five-day exchange between the Government of China, Chinese pharmaceutical manufacturers and regional partners, exploring how African manufacturing capacity can be strengthened and connected to technology, investment, predictable markets, and regional procurement.
The exchange comes as countries across the region seek to strengthen health security, reduce vulnerability to global supply disruptions, and build more sustainable access to medicines, diagnostics, and prevention technologies.
At the conclusions of the five-day mission, participants will brief the media today on what was achieved, the practical opportunities identified, and the partnerships and next steps to be pursued.
For more on this, we are joined by Senior Programme Officer for Health at the SADC Secretariat, Dr Lamboly Kumboneki.
