By constructing a massive border checkpoint and trade corridor in this deep gorge, the Chinese government created opportunities for so many people to settle here for work. Allowing numerous travelers to pass back and forth during such a perilous period is the root cause behind the heavy loss of life along this border. Above all, this grave error is the reason why so many foreigners lost their lives at this checkpoint. Yet, China lacks the courage to acknowledge its mistakes.
