They haven’t left a single stone unturned and, more importantly, they haven’t left Maresca much room for excuses either.<br><br>What more could a manager possibly ask for?<br><br>He now has a healthier, younger, deeper and more experienced squad than last season, tremendous quality across practically every position, and a team increasingly built around players he personally wanted.<br><br>And it’s not even Christmas yet, but for Maresca it must already feel like Christmas.<br><br>A midfield worth around £350 million. Erling Haaland, arguably the best striker in world football. Quality wingers, No. 10s, No. 6s and No. 8s everywhere you look. In several positions, City arguably have players who rank No. 1 or No. 2 in the world in their position on the field.<br><br>Honestly, the board deserves applause. 👏👏<br><br>They appear determined to give Maresca absolutely everything he needs to succeed. You could even argue that the level of immediate backing was much better than Pep Guardiola when he first join the club and even in his desperate years wanting players. As you may know Pep is one of the greatest managers of all time and Enzo is supported on a much higher scale than Pep.<br><br>To be fair, nobody should expect Maresca to immediately fill Pep’s shoes or reproduce everything Guardiola achieved in his very first season. That would be unrealistic.<br><br>But with this level of backing? Surely expectations have to be high. Manchester City have used up all their profits rebuilding this team. They have gambled and put their trust in a coach that hasn’t proven himself yet. <br><br>They’ve essentially handed Maresca a squad close to perfection. With the money invested, the quality available and the depth throughout this team, expecting multiple trophies, especially a serious Premier League title challenge, hardly seems unreasonable.<br><br>Now comes the fascinating part:<br><br>Can he actually deliver with it?<br><br>Because when a manager receives this level of financial backing, squad depth and talent, expectations naturally change.<br><br>Injuries? There’s depth.<br><br>Lack of quality? Certainly not.<br><br>Players who don’t fit his system? Many were specifically chosen for it.<br><br>Problems with the dressing room? These are players who appear to respect him, believe in him and are prepared to follow his ideas. These are his soldiers.<br><br>So where exactly is the excuse supposed to come from?<br><br>The spotlight can no longer be on the board. It now moves directly onto the manager. City were only a few games off from Arsenal last season and obviously ended up beating them in the Carabao Cup final. Arsenal are still lacking a proven goal scorer up front and didn't make many additions to their squad. If the VAR actually works as intended and gives them the red cards they deserve this season and penalizes them for their foul play on corners, I don't see them replicating their success. With the players that City added, I think it's ludicrous to think Arsenal's squad is better. They could still pip City due to Arteta and how stout their defense is, but it certainly won't be based on overall squad quality.
