A five-year-old girl police believe was abducted from a home in Alice Springs has been found dead.

The family wishes the young girl to be known as Kumanjayi Little Baby.

Kumanjayi Little Baby disappeared late on Saturday night from a home in the Old Timers/Ilyperenye Aboriginal town camp on the outskirts of the regional town.

Northern Territory Police Commissioner Martin Dole says her death is "devastating news".
