El-Nino I Government tells residents in flood-prone areas to prepare for evacuation

ALARM OVER RISING WATER LEVELS

The government has issued a fresh warning over the expected El Niño rains, saying rising lake levels could worsen flooding and displacement in several parts of the country. The Principal Secretary for Environment and Climate Change Dr. Festus Ng’eno says the government has activated a multi-agency disaster response team to assess high-risk areas around Lakes Baringo and Bogoria, while plans are underway to identify safe areas and prepare for possible evacuations. He further urged residents in flood-prone areas to move livestock, harvests and valuables to higher ground, and obey evacuation orders.
