Wow, us army deployments 12+ months each, not counting train ups, gone from your families for 18+ months at a time, getting rocketed daily and shot at daily, running convoys protecting KBR trucks, doing route reconnaissance convoys daily, IEDs, protecting visiting congress people and senators and other visitors who wanted to see the Red Zone until the bullets started flying. But we signed up for it, no one forced you to sign your name on that paper. You did not complain about it when you were a home collecting that check. Try this, think about WWII, and how hard that was and those Americans that fought through what they endured, NOW THAT WAS HARD, not on a ship in the middle of the sea or ocean. Think about Vietnam,having to crawl in a hole as a tunnel rat, NOW THAT WAS HARD, NOT ON A SHIP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SEA OR OCEAN THAT DID NOT TAKE A SINGLE ROUND TO THE SHIP. Now was there the possibility, well yes there is always a chance, but as a serviceman you know there is a chance you may not make it, you make peace with death knowing you are a good person fighting for the person standing on your right and left. Honor your commitment, give it 100% of your effort and do not reenlist when your contract is up if you cannot handle it. Just know that you are only 6 and a 1/2 of the population that serves in the military. The rest of the population depends on you. Know that your service is a honorable thing, do not fall for the BS the news tries to portray. Yes service to your country is hard, not everyone can handle it or do it. Thank you for your service, quit complaining, if you need help, get it when you get home. Combat sucks, it is not easy but if not you then who? I seen a video on Utube of a sailor videoing a dirty latrine/head, how about you get in there and clean it instead of videoing it. The things you endure make you strong not weaker! PTSD is real, dealing with it is real, but sympathy from the anti government people is not the answer! If you need help, reach out to people that care about you not the news clowns trying to make money off of your pain, they do not give two sheets about you!

When was the last time the US military actually defended the United States? It sounds like every major deployment in recent years is chasing for oil. Iran, Venezuela, Iraq… we went to Iraq after 9/11 even though the terrorists were in Afghanistan and Pakistan. You’re never going an ex-high level military officer to tell you the truth about whether the military is doing the right… it risks too many lucrative consulting gigs.

Our brains need to be cared for just as much as our other organs. We don't look down on people who have an infection. We encourage and hope them to get treatment so it doesn't spread and even cause death. There is absolutely no difference between that and reaching out for mental health care. Why are we allowing this stigma to go on? Instead of blaming patients, we should treat any retaliation against mental health needs as a crime and penalize anyone who mistreats patients for asking for help.
Every army must be dynamic, so the war with Iran helps to maintain this dynamic
We need to fundamentally change our culture of stigma around mental health treatment specificallt for pilots and people in safety-intensive roles like this sailor's nuclear power role. If a pilot needs treatment for mental health of any kind, they almost immidiately lose their wings. For a pilot, this is like a death sentance. Becoming a pilot, period, but especially professionally, is a lifetime accomplishment, really, and a major part of your identity, due to every pilot's sheer passion for flying. So, they will 100% of the time avoid seeking any mental health treatment for depression, etc. Even if they badly need it, becaue that means losing their livelihood and the one thing they care about more than almost anything. So instead, we end up with a bunch of pilots who might have debilitating depression, but are going completely untreated so they don't lose their wings. Any pilot reading this will understand what I mean when I say, a pilot would rather die than willingly lose their wings.
I want to know if the soldiers who passed away families are taken care of.
If a pilot was suffering from what Trump is suffering from, he'd be grounded. Trump has nuclear codes.

It’s the military; deployments get extended. plans change. You stay out longer than expected; that comes with the job. I would like to hear from the troops who were kicking in doors, sleeping in the dirt, and getting shot at in Iraq and Afghanistan, and hear how terrible their job was.
If your not up to doing the job maybe you should look for another line of work you are better suited for.

I served in the Navy 25 years, was on the USS Abraham Lincoln in 2005, it was hard and difficult we did 179 days at sea straight no port of calls an I thought that was rough. What should change is anyone who volunteers for mental health id evaluated by a certified PHD pyscatrist should get immediately removed from the ship and taken to s shore facility for further evaluation and treatment with no retaliation or ramifications to their career. It should be encouraged to ask for help. And people can be replaced at sea. And no one should be working as s nuke under psychiatric medication and no treatment. And making a suicidal claim is nowt a character flaw or weakness it's the ship breaking people, and it can happen to anyone. But being on the ship is not indusive of healthy treatment. And the shits pyscatrist needs to be independent of the chain of command and removed and only answers to BUMED. And what he says goes as far as mental manning goes.
