The strait was open to all and oil was flowing freely before the US/Israel attack on Iran. Now its costing US taxpayers 10s of millions each to help transport a small few ships through a strait that was previously open.

17million per day is a lie, lol...it's more like 5million per day. The US navy has failed to take control over the strait. Also, why hasn't the oil market jumped hugely in price is because over the last 6 months China alone with its huge petroleum reserves and abundant renewable energy shifted its reliance from the middle east preventing and oil crises. All the help points to China and not the US who are the main reason for all trouble in the region.

Building and expanding alternative pipelines was expected as soon as this conflict started. However, it was also suggested that Iran can strike those too, and probably will. Not sure if reducing the dependence on the Strait will reduce Iran's ability to control the flow of oil out as much as the US is hoping.
