This German state could elect a far-right party, a 1st since the Nazis

An upcoming state election could see the AfD, Germany’s far-right party, form government in the region of Saxony-Anhalt. A win here would give the party influence over schools, culture, courts and police forces, affecting over 2.1 million residents in the region as well as legitimize the party on the federal level.

It would also mark the first time a far-right party — one that Germany’s domestic intelligence agency has designated a far-right extremist group in the state — has come into power since the Nazi Party.

The CBC’s Marina von Stackelberg travelled to Saxony-Anhalt to speak with AfD supporters about why they’re willing to vote for its polarizing policies.
