"COULD". The real answer to that is no it cant. This is straight propaganda and market maniplation. None of this heavy crude has any infastructure for production. It will take 5 to 7 years for a result. Hence why no company wanted to go into Venezuela. Chevron today said they would start today. The thing is 2 years down the road Trump is either out of office or dead. Chevron can back out anytime they want. Trump is basically lying attempting to manipulate markets for midterms and Im willing to bet Trump had Chevron make this announcement today.. Its a little to late for that. Starting a war after running on "No New Wars" for 8 years kinda is self defeating.

When did Venezuela oil ever bring profit to the US? When Russia was doing their refining? I do not mean to belittle the human sacrifice and our investment in the opportunity for Venezuela&#39;s population to determine their destiny and the fact that we are not investing without getting something back, but it is still a sacrifice for our country to keep bailing out other&#39;s bad decisions when there are people just waiting for the opportunity to raise up another dictatorship. Nor should we allow Venezuela to be exposed to corrupt Americans. I hope the best for them and for our military injured in freeing them from Maduro.

The problem is that with current oil usage levels is that the US does not have the refining capacity to completely satisfy America&#39;s needs. Also, none of our refineries are designed to process US crude oil. We have to import oil to mix with it so that the processing plants can handle it. The long term solution would be to build more refineries that have the capabilities of processing raw US oil. This is the only way to guarantee total oil independence.
