UN warns nuclear weapons pose lasting environmental threat

The United Nations is warning of the devastating humanitarian and environmental consequences of nuclear weapons testing and explosions, saying they could affect thousands of generations. UNEP Executive Director Inger Andersen has outlined contamination of land, water and food chains as the worrying effects of persistent nuclear testing. She spoke at the UN office in Gigiri, Nairobi, during the International Day against Nuclear Tests commemoration.
