The government has revised the customs minimum benchmark for general consolidated cargo downwards from 3.2 million shillings to 2 million after talks with small scale traders at State House, Nairobi. President William Ruto has further directed the Kenya Revenue Authority to register all consolidators and their traders afresh to ensure only small traders benefit from the revised rates. The traders held a major protest in Nairobi on Friday last week, complaining about the new rates imposed by the taxman, saying its eroding their business margins.
